Your kid opens a new app one night. It doesn't ask for a birthday now. It wants a face scan, or your driver's license photo. That's real, and it's spreading fast. This used to happen only on adult sites. Now it's showing up in places you'd never guess.
The fight over kid age checks is basically over.
According to Biometric Update, the Supreme Court backed these checks for adult content. And that ruling spread. About half of all states now demand some kind of age gate. It jumped from a handful of states in 2023 to more than twenty-five by early 2026.
So the real question isn't whether apps will check your age. They will. It's whether your family hands a face scan and an I.D. photo to every app you download.
And once a company holds your face in a database, that data doesn't just sit there safely.
You smiled for a camera at the D.M.V. to drive a car. You didn't sign up for the biggest face database in the country. But you're in it. In Florida, one private company now runs the system that searches all of it.
One contractor holds the keys to your face.
According to State of Surveillance, federal agencies can pull from more than six hundred forty million license photos. Often without a warrant. And Florida grants access to that face system to roughly two hundred fifty agencies, per Florida Politics.
Two hundred fifty separate doors into the same house. Encryption locks the front door. But it does nothing to stop someone who already has a key.
A key still works, of course, only until the lock itself breaks.
Picture a sealed letter you mail today. Someone copies it. They can't open it yet. So they just wait. They know the lock is set to break in ten years. That's your data right now. Copied today, cracked open later.
Encryption was never a wall. It was always a clock.
Security experts call this harvest now, decrypt later. According to Biometric Update, the N.S.A. and other agencies say it's happening today. You can reset a password in ninety seconds. You can't reset your face.
There's no cancel my face button. Your fingerprint, your face, they never expire. Once that copy is cracked, it exposes a piece of you forever.
Look at the thread. Age checks put your face in more databases. Florida shows how loosely those databases get shared. And the last story? That stored face can be copied today and cracked open years later. More faces collected. Fewer walls holding.
