CaraComp vs FacePair: Face Comparison Tools Compared

Looking for a FacePair alternative, or just trying to decide between the two? This page puts CaraComp and FacePair side by side so you can pick the face comparison tool that fits your job. It is written to be fair to both tools, and every fact about FacePair comes from its own website, checked on October 16, 2026.

The short answer

What both face comparison tools do, and what neither does

CaraComp and FacePair both take photos you already have and return a face similarity score. You choose the photos, the tool measures how alike the faces look, and you decide what the result means.

Neither one is a face search engine such as PimEyes or FaceCheck.ID. A face search engine takes one photo and looks for matches across the web. A face comparison tool only compares the photos you give it. If you already have the photos and need to know how similar the faces are, a comparison tool is the right kind of product.

How to read a face similarity score

Similarity scores are not standardized between tools. FacePair says scores of 50% or higher count as a match. Face++, another face comparison provider, suggests different thresholds for different uses: about 80 or higher for high security, 70 to 80 as a standard setting and 60 to 70 for low friction (source: faceplusplus.com/face-comparing). A score from one tool cannot be compared with a score from another.

A score shows how much two faces resemble each other in the photos you supplied. It does not prove that two photos show the same person. Lighting, angle, age and photo quality all change the result, so treat a score as one piece of evidence and not as the final answer.

CaraComp vs FacePair FAQ

Is FacePair free?

Yes. FacePair states on its site that it is completely free to use. You upload two photos and get a similarity result.

Is CaraComp free?

No. CaraComp is a paid tool. The Investigator plan is $29 per month (the first month is $14.50), or $265 per year, and there is a 7-day refund guarantee.

Is CaraComp a face search engine like PimEyes?

No. CaraComp compares photos that you upload. It does not search the internet for a stranger's face. FacePair works the same way, so neither tool is a face search engine.

Can CaraComp compare more than two faces?

Yes. You can upload one source face and compare it against 20 or more target images at once, and crowd detection scans up to 100 faces in a single image.

Does a higher percentage mean it is the same person?

Not by itself. Tools do not share one scale, so 50% on one tool is not the same as 50% on another. A similarity score shows visual resemblance. It is not proof of identity.

Do both tools keep my photos?

Each says it deletes images. FacePair says "No data stored, all images deleted automatically" and also says only minimal derived comparison measurements are sent to generate its explanation. CaraComp says it "deletes all images in its database on a regular basis, most times daily." See the table above for the exact wording.

FacePair is a separate company and is not affiliated with CaraComp. Facts about FacePair were taken from facepair.com on October 16, 2026.
