But N.I.S.T. research shows one-to-one verification consistently outperforms one-to-many search by a wide margin — often by more than twenty percentage points under controlled conditions.
So here's the bottom line. Facial recognition does two very different jobs. Searching a crowd for an unknown face is hard and error-prone.
